430. Thomas Blower (bp. 1587–by 1639)

Thomas Blower was baptized on 23 April 1587 in Stanstead, England. [1, 77–78] He died by 9 Sepember 1639. [2] He married Alice Frost on 19 November 1612 in Stanstead. [1, 77–78]

431. Alice Frost (bp. 1594)

Alice Frost was baptized on 1 Decemer 1594 in Stanstead. [1, 85] She probably married second William Tilly soon after 6 July 1640 in Barnstable. [2]


Alice's father refers to Alice as the wife of Thomas Blower in his will. [1, 85]

Thomas and Alice moved to Sudbury two or three years after their marriage and lived their for at least 15 years. In 1633 Alice had a dispute with the church and was charged with Contempt of Ecclesiastical Laws and fined a ruinous 100 pounds. Thomas and Alice fled to London to appeal the case and it was dismissed on 26 June 1634. [1, 77–78]

In September 1635 Thomas and Alice sailed to New England on the Truelove. [2]

i. Hannah Blower was buried on 7 May 1630 in All Saints, Sudbury.

ii. Alice Blower was baptized on 30 June 1615 at St. Gregory, Sudbury. She married Richard Brackett.

iii. Joshua Blower was baptized on 15 December 1621 in All Saints. He was buried on 22 March 1623/4.

iv. Thomas Blower was baptized on 29 February 1623/4 in All Saints. He was buried on 25 April 1625 in All Saints.

v. Mary Blower was baptized on 13 February 1625/6. She was buried on 1639/40 in All Saints.

vi. John Blower was baptized on 23 March 1627/8. He died after 9 September 1675. He married Tabitha Unknown.

John is almost certainly the John Blower who is on a 1643 list of those able to bear arms in Barnstable.

John was in Boston in 1650. He was a cooper and a slave owner. He made his will on 9 Septemer 1675.

vi. Thomas Blower was baptized on 16 May 1630 in All Saints. There is no further record of him.

vii. Pyam Blower was born about 1638. He died on 1 June 1709 in Cambridge. He married Elizabeth Belcher on 31 March 1668.

THOMAS BLOWER made his will on 28 September 1597. He probably died the next day and was buried on 1 October 1597 in Lavenham, Suffolk. He married first Alice Sparpointe on 10 August 1574. She died in 1581. He married second Susan Vincent on 27 February 1581/2. [1, 81–81]

SUSAN VINCENT (Andrew, Nicholas, Andrew) was born about 1560. He was a tanner of Lavenham. [1, 81–81]

Probably all of Thomas's children except the last were baptized in Stanstead. [1, 81–81]

x. Rachel Blower was baptized on 12 October 1591. She was buried on 13 December 1595.

xii. Rachel Blower was baptized on 13 December 1595 at Lavenham. She married Mark Salter on 22 October 1615 in St. Gregory's Sudbury.

ANDREW VINCENT (Nicolas, Andrew) of Bidleston was probably born between 1520 and 1530. He was buried on 5 December 1580. He married Alice Unknown. [1, 89–90]

Andrew made his will on 3 December 1580; he owned a fair amount of property. His children were probably all born in Bidleston. [1, 89–90]

iii. Alice Vincent was probably born about 1558. She married first Edmund Reicroft on 16 February 1580/1. She married second Erasmus Coree (Corre).
iv. Susan Vincent was born about 1560. She married Thomas Blower.
v. Bridget Vincent was probably born in 1561/2. She was living in 1581.
vi. Joan Vincent was baptized in October 1563 in Bidleston and buried there ion 26 November 1579.
vii. Mary Vincent was baptized on 13 January 1565/6 and buried on 20 October 1631 in Boxford. She married Henry Coe on 21 September 1587 in Bidleston. He was buried on 28 January 1630/1.
viii. Elizabeth Vincent was baptized on 13 June 1568 and buried on 6 August 1569.

NICHOLAS VINCENT (Andrew) of Bidleston was probably born about 1494/7 in or near Bidleston. He died between 12 November 1553, when he made his will, and 12 March 1553/4, when it was proved. He married Agnes Unknown. [1, 97–98]

Nicholas was a substantial yeoman farmer. [1, 97–98]

Nicholas had a son Andrew; daughters Agnes, Elizabeth and Alice, born after 1532; a son Andrew, above. [1, 97–98]

ANDREW VINCENT lived in Bidleston. He had a son Nicholas, above, and three daughters: one who was probably born in 1490/5, died before 1521/2 and married Thomas Chaplin; one who perhaps married Unknown Burke; one who married William Byrch. [1, 106–7]

40. WILLIAM SCOTT of Glemsford was probably born about 1450. He died between 24 April 1498, when he wrote his will, and 29 September 1498, when it was proved.

ii. Thomas Scott was probably born about 1478. He died about 1529. He married Joan Unknown. He made his will on 3 August 1524.

  56. JOHN STRUTT was probably born in the mid-1400s. He was of Glemsford and he made his will on 12 September 1516. He mentioned his wife Isabelle (Elizabeth); his sons Thomas, John and Robert; he dauther Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Ellis; his daughters Katherine and Margery; the daughters of his daughter Alice Bigg. His wife made her will on 22 September 1526. She mentioned her son Thomas and her daughter Elizabeth Ellis. [1, 115]
 

20. RICHARD SCOTT was probably born about 1476. He probably died in April 1560. Robert Scott of Boxsted, Suffolk, made his will on 30 May 1559. [1, 109–11]

28. THOMAS STRUTT, yeoman of Long Melford, Suffolk, made his will on 20 June 1544. He mentioned his wife Joan, sons John, Eustace and Erasmus and daughter Audrey Strutt. [1, 112]

i. John Strutt was buried on 22 April 1591. He married first Catherine Unknown. He married second Julian Scott.
ii. Erasmus Strutt was probably born about 1525. He died in 1557. He married Alice Roberdes on 9 October 1552. She married second John White on 13 June 1558 in Glemsford.
iii. Audrey Strutt married Unknown Hatch.
iv. Eustace Strutt was living in 1557. He married and had children.
v. Ursula Strutt married Thomas Brewster.

8. WILLIAM FROST was probably born about 1495/1500. He died in the summer of 1549. He married Philippa Unknown. She was probably born after 1508. She was buried on 20 January 1577/8 in Lidgate. She married second John Webb of Lidgate on 15 September 1552. He was buried on 25 July 1558 in Lidgate. He had a previous wife Rose, who was buried on 11 February 1551/2 in Lidgate. Philippa and John had a daughter Anna, baptized in 1553. [1, 99–100]

In his will of 5 July 1549, William of Glemsford refers to his eldest son Roger, his son Henry, his middle son John, his younger son John, his daughters Audrey and Jane, and unnamed daughter and his wile Philippa. [1, 99–100]

i. Roger Frost was probably born about 1525/30. He was buried on 4 April 1580. He married first Agnes Unknown, who was buried on 10 February 1558/9 in Glemsford. He married second Katherine Unknown.

iii. John Frost was born about 1530/5. He was buried on 6 February 1609/10. He married Anne Scott.

10. RICHARD SCOTT was probably born about 1510, presumably in Glemsford. He married first Joanna Unknown. She was buried on 23 August 1556. He married second as (apparently) her third husband Joan Tollington (Tollerton) on 5 October 1556. Joan was the widow of Christopher Tollington. She married (apparently) fourth Thomas Hayward on 26 September 1565. [1, 101]

Richard Scott, clothier of Glemsford, made his will on 7 February 1564/5. He mentioned his wife Joan, his eldest son John, his sons Edward and Richard, his son-in-laws Thomas Warren, John Frost and William Lellye and his two youngest daughters Margaret and Elizabeth. [1, 101]

iii. Katherine Scott was perhaps born about 1538. She married William Lilly on 7 November 1563.
iv. Mary Scott was perhaps born about 1540. She married Thomas Waren on 27 May 1564.
v. Edward Scott was perhaps born in 1540/4 He died in 1627. He married Elizabeth Unknown. She may be the Elizabeth who was buried on 14 March 1596/7. Edward was a clothier.
vi. Joan Scott was baptized on 7 June 1550 She was buried on 11 January 1553/4 in Glemsford.
vii. Susanna Scott was baptized on 11 February 1551/2. She was buried on 21 April 1552 in Glemsford.
viii. Richard Scott was baptized on 26 September 1553. He died in 1627. Richard was a clothier.

Ambrose was buried on 9 May 1621 in Glemsford. [1, 103–5]

John Strutt, yeoman of Glemsford, made his will on 19 April 1591. He mentioned his wife Julian, his daughter Anne, his nephew [grandchild] Thomas Belgrave, the children of his deceased daughter Joan Belgrave, his sister Ursula Brewster. [1, 103–5]

5. ANNE SCOTT was buried on 30 July 1588. [1, 91–92]

6. JOHN BELGRAVE was buried on 12 February 1590/1. He married first Joanna Strutt on 22 September 1560 in Glemsford. He married second Elizabeth Fayerfoxe (Fairfax) of Bury St. Edmunds. [1, 93]

John Belgrave, yeoman of Leverington, Cambridgeshire, made his will on 3 February 1590/1. He named his sons Abraham, George, Jacob and Thomas, his daughters Thomasine, Elizabeth and Catherine and Elizabeth and William Frost, the children of his so Edward Frost. [1, 93]

7. JOAN STRUTT was buried on 14 August 1577 in Leverington. [1, 93]

Edward Frost, clothier of Stanstead, made his will on 26 July 1616. He named his wife Thomasine; his son William; his four daughters—Elizabeth, the wife of Henry Rice, Anne, the wife of Laurence Collin, Alice, the wife of Thomas Blower, Mary Frost and Thomasine Frost; Edward Rice, the son of his daughter Elizabeth. His will was proved on 4 October 1616. [1, 85]

3. THOMASINE BELGRAVE was baptized on 1 February 1561/2 in Leverington, Cambridgeshire. [1, 85]

i. Anne Frost was baptized on 28 November 1586 in Glemsford. She was buried on 27 December 1586.
ii. Elizabeth Frost was baptized on 24 March 1587/8 in Glemsford. She married first Henry Rice on 12 November 1605 in Stanstead. She married second Philemon Whale on 24 January 1621/2 in St. Mary's Bury St. Edmund's.
Elizabeth and Philemon went to Sudbury, Massachusetts.
iii. William Frost was baptized on 19 September 1589 in Stanstead. He was buried on 3 February 1624/5. He married Abigail Bowser on 29 November 1610 in Stanstead. Abigail, the daughter of Henry Bowser, clerk, was baptized on 25 April 1592.
iv. Anne Frost was baptized on 3 December 1592 in Stanstead. She married Laurence Collin on 25 October 1613 in St. Mary's.
v. Alice Frost was baptized on 1 December 1594 in Stanstead. She married first Thomas Blower. She probably married second William Tilley.
vi. Mary Frost was baptized on 20 September 1596 in Stanstead. She was buried there on 13 November 1596.
vii. Mary Frost was probably born in 1597/8. She probably married Edmund Salloman on 11 September 1617 in Stanstead or John Scott on 18 September 1622.
viii. Thomasine Frost was baptized on 10 August 1600 in Stanstead. She died on 13 June 1654. She married Edmund Rice on 15 August 1618 in St. Mary's. Edmund was probably the younger brother, but possibly the son, of Thomasine's sister Elizabeth's husband. He married second the widow Mercy Brigham on 1 March 1654/5.
Thomasine and Edmund went to New England.
